Police Ombudsman investigate after Taser gun fired by PSNI in Portadown

AN investigation has been launchd by the Police Ombudsman after PSNI officers fired a Taser gun.

Officers fired the weapon at a man in Shandon Square, Portadown.

It followed reports of a disturbance in Co Armagh town in the early hours of Wednesday.

The man is alleged to have threatened officers before the stun gun was discharged.

He was arrested and taken into custody.

As is normal procedure, the case has been handed over to the office of the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland (PONI) for a formal investigation.

A PONI statement said: “Investigators attended the scene and have begun an investigation to establish if the firearm was used appropriately.
