Fire crews pull a man from fire in University Street but he is pronounced dead at the scene

A man has died in a house fire in south Belfast.

The 63-year-old was rescued from the blaze at a top floor flat in University Street at around 7.20pm on Sunday night.

However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

University Street was closed between the Botanic Avenue and Malone for a number of hours before being reopened later.

Police said the cause of the fire has yet to be established and an investigation is underway.
