HMRC’s John Whiting says all tax fraud will be investigated

A MAN and woman have been arrested over an alleged £13,000 VAT repayment fraud linked to the motor trade.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) officers searched three business and a home as part of the inquiry.

The raids took place in the Tandragee, Armagh, Loughgilly and Craigavon areas on Thursday morning where they seized documents, records and a quantity of cash.

The pair are currently being questioned by HMRC officers and investigations are continuing.

John Whiting, HMRC assistant director for criminal Investigation, said: “HMRC takes tax fraud extremely seriously and we will not hesitate to investigate those we suspect of choosing to evade taxes or stealing public funds.
