FIRE chiefs have evacuated a number of businesses due to a gas leak in Lisburn.

The leak was reported in the Longstone Street area at around 6.30pm on Tuesday.

Fire crews have erected a cordon between Grosvenor Bridge and Manor Park.

The area has been closed to traffic and people have been moved to a safe distance.

It is understood the leak was caused by a broken natural gas pipeline and there are no reports of any injuries.

Phoenix Gas technicians are at the scene trying to repair the broken pipe.

Nearby homeowners have been asked to keep their windows closed and report any smell of gas.
