Police arrest dissident republican suspect in England in terror probe

A CLOSE friend of dissident republican chief Colin Duffy has been arrested in England.

The 50-year-old was detained as part of an investigation into dissident republican terrorist activity.

The suspect, who is originally from the Lurgan area of County Armagh, was detained in Lancashire on Tuesday morning.

The arrest was made by detectives from PSNI’S Serious Crime Branch. They were assisted by the North West Counter Terrorism Unit.

The man is to be brought back to Northern Ireland for questioning.

He is due to be interviewed at Antrim police station about terrorist activity dating back a number of years.

Acccording to dissident republican sources, the man under is arrest has been a long standing friend of Colin Duffy, a senior figure in the Continuity IRA.

Last November Duffy was arrested and questioned over the murder of prison officer David Black as he drove to work at Maghaberry prison.

Said the dissident republican source: “You couldn’t have put a cigarette paper between them they were that tight once.”
