Detectives question man over machete attack in North Belfast

DETECTIVES have charged a man after a 30-year-old victim suffered a large gash to the face.

The victim was attacked with a suspected machete in north Belfast.

It happened in a flat in the Edlingham Street area in the early hours of Sunday.

Rumours swept the area that the victim had died but police told local councillors that the attack was not fatal.

The male victim was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Detectives arrested a 22-year-old man during follow up inquiries.

The suspect has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and common assault.

He is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
