Detecives quiz man over murder bid on prison officer in 1977

‘WAKING The Dead’ detectives have arrested a man in his 60s over the attempted murder of a prison officer 35 years ago.

The attack happened in June 1977 on the Oldpark Road, in north Belfast.

The sixty-five-year-old suspect was arrested on Wednesday and is being questioned at the serious crime suite in Antrim.

Detectives from Serious Crime Branch are conducting a renewed investigation into the murder bid.

The arrest follows fresh information obtained by detectives.
