Police appeal over arson and criminal damage attacks in Antrim

DETECTIVES believe there is a link between three incidents of arson and criminal damage in Antrim on Monday night.

The first attack happened in the Meadow area at around 8.50pm when a shed was set on fire.

Police received a report ten minutes later that a car had been set alight and extensively damaged in the Kintraye area.

Then at around 9.05pm a car windscreen was smashed in the Islay Street area.

At this stage police believe the three incidents may be connected.

They come after a series of arson attacks on vehicles in Antrim over the weekend.

Up to seven cars have now been attacked in less than a week.

Former Antrim mayor UUP councillor Adrian Watson said: “There is no justification for these attacks.

“There is nothing to carry these attacks together – they’re all individuals, some of them elderly people, no family connections or theme to the attacks that the PSNI can follow up on.”

Anyone with information about the attacks is asked to contact Antrim Police Station on 0845 600 8000.
