Police at the scene of a security alert in west Belfast

POLICE are at the scene of a security alert in west Belfast.

A number of homes have been evacuated in Lenadoon Avenue which is now closed between its junctions with Shaws Road and Corrib Avenue.

Shaws Road has been closed between its junctions with Glen Road and Rossnareen Avenue.

Army technical officers are at scene and motorists are asked to avoid the area and take an alternative route.
