Police declare security alert in Newtownabbey a hoax

AN overnight security alert in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, has ended.

A suspect device was reported in the O’Neill Road area on Thursday evening.

Police and army bomb squad officers were called but the item was found to be a hoax.

The road was closed for a time but has now been reopened.

There have been three security alerts this week in Newtownabbey.

A device temporarily closed the M5 motorway on Tuesday night.

A second forced a number of homes to be evacuated in the AltnacreevaPark area on Wednesday.

All three have all turned out to be hoaxes.

Police have asked anyone with information to come forward.
