NORTH Belfast DUP MLA Nelson McCausland has condemned the robbery of the Spar Shop at The Diamond, Rathcoole on Sunday night.
The Social Development Minister said the robbery had been a “traumatic experience for staff. ”
He said: “It is reported that two masked men threatened staff with a knife and a hammer before making off with a sum of money and quantity of cigarettes.
“Local convenience stores are an essential part of local communities. Any attack or robbery conducted against them is felt by the entire community.
“I join with local people in expressing my disgust and condemnation of this robbery. Apart from the impact on staff such robberies can threaten the viability of local shops.
“Without doubt someone will know who was responsible for this crime. They must be caught before they carry out further crimes.
“I would appeal to anyone with knowledge or suspicion of who was responsible to pass that information on the police.”
