Security alert off the Donegall Road in south Belfast

A SECURITY alert is ongoing in south Belfast.

Residents who were evacuated during an overnight security alert in south Belfast have now been allowed to return to their homes.

The alert was sparked when a suspicious object was found in the Kitchener Street area on Thursday night.

The area was sealed off after army technical officers were tasked to examine the object.

Soudan Street and Donegall Road from Donegall Avenue to Nubia Street also remain closed.

A community centre was opened for residents, who were allowed to return to their homes on Friday morning.
