POLICE in north Belfast have warned people living in sheltered dwellings to be on the alert for a new scam.
The Neighbourhood Police Team at York Road PSNI have been alerted to callers pretending to be from Northern Ireland Electricity.
Said the PSNI: “Persons pretending to be from Northern Ireland Electricity have been phoning and asking for bank details.
“They say it is to allow refunds of over paid bills to be returned. This is totally untrue.
“It has been confirmed to police by NIE that these requests are false and nobody should give out their Bank details over the phone to any Company.
“If in doubt ring police on 0845 600 8000.”
