Police move water cannon into east Belfast

PSNI riot squad officers have come under attack on Friday evening in a second night of trouble.

A crowd has thrown petrol bombs and fireworks at police lines on the Albertridge Road.

Police have deployed a large presence of landrovers and officers dressed from head to foot in helmets, fireproof clothing and shields.

A police water cannon has also been deployed into Castlereagh Street.

The PSNI’s ‘Hawkeye’ helicopter has also been deployed to highlight areas where the attacks are coming from.

Ten police officers were injured during serious public disorder on Thursday.

ACC George Hamilton said he believed the violence was “planned and orchestrated”.
