MAN BEATEN AND KICKED IN ATTEMPTED TAXI HIJACKING

Detectives hunt two men who attacked taxi driver

DETECTIVES at Tennent Street PSNI are appealing for help after a taxi driver was beaten by two men during an attempted hijacking.

It happened in the Oldpark area of north Belfast just before 1am on Friday when the driver arrived at the corner of Meyrick Park and Joanmount Park for a pick up.

Two men got into his car, pulled out a gun and ordered him to hand over money.

The terrified driver got out of his taxi only to be chased by the men who punched and kicked him.

The victim shouted out for help and his assailants ran off down Meyrick Park towards Joanmount.

Police said the driver was taken to hospital for treatment on injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Anyone with more information has been asked to come forward to detectives.
