Army bomb experts defuse letter bomb

A LETTER bomb found in a post box could have killed or caused serious injury, police have revealed.

The device was found inside a post box in Clough, County Down on Thursday evening.

Police were alerted around 9pm following reports of a man acting suspiciously near the letter box on the Dundrum Road.

As a result, Army technical officers were called to scene to examine the package. It was later made safe and has been taken away for forensic examination..

Local DUP MLA for the area Jim Wells said: “These things can kill. Maybe the intention was to intimidate or threaten but these types of devices are hugely dangerous.

“If they go off they can cause death or serious injury.”
