DISSIDENT SUSPECT HELD AFTER POLICE RAIDS IN NEWRY

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch have arrested a 29-year-old man in Newry, County Down, over dissident republican terrorism.

He was detained on Thursday when officers carried out searches in the Derrybeg and Main Avenue areas of the city.

The PSNI said a number of items were taken away for examination following the planned operation.

The suspect was taken to Antrim police station for questioning.

Local PSNI police boss, Chief Inspector Davy Beck, said: “I would like to thank the community for their support during these searches.

“You have asked us to tackle criminality in the local area and we will continue to do this to make Newry and Mourne a safer place to live.”
