POLICE ISSUE BOGUS MESSAGE ALERT OVER HEARING TEST CALLS TO ELDERLY IN NORTH BELFAST

Police alert elderly over bogus hearing aid tests

POLICE are probing bogus calls to elderly residents in north Belfast who have received telephone messages telling them to go for hearing aid check ups.

The messages claim appointments have been made for them at Harvester House, Adelaide Street for 10am tomorrow morning.

However, the scam was rumbled as a number of elderly home owners who received the messages do not have hearing aids.

Harvester House heard about the calls and contacted police at York Road.

It said that although they do have a clinic on Thursday, they do not contact people by phone or cold call.

Officers are now advising anyone who received such a message to ignore the proposed appointment and contact police immediately on 0845 600 8000.

Anyone with information can also pass it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
