POLICE say a man in his 40s who was killed in a crash was a motorcyclist.

His motorcycle was in collision with a tractor near Ashtree Cottages on the Rathfriland Road in Newry on Monday afternoon.

The accident around 4.30 pm.

The PSNI closed the road for a period of time while its Collision Investigation Unit examined the scene to determine how the accident happened.

The road has now re-opened.

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them at Ardmore PSNI station on the 101 number.

The victim of the crash is the 31st person to die on the province’s roads this year.
