SUSPICIOUS ITEMS FOUND IN SOUTH BELFAST SECURITY ALERT

Village bombPOLICE have re-opened the Donegall Road in south Belfast following a security alert on Wednesday night.

A number of homes were evacuated during the alert sparked following a tip-off to police.

Police took away items for examination after searching a house on Wednesday.

Army Technical Officers were called to the scene as a precaution while the house was searched.

A senior detective said a number of suspicious items were discovered during the planned house search.

They have been sent to the Northern Ireland Forensic Science Laboratory at Seapark in Carrickfergus for examination.
