91-YEAR-OLD MAN DIES AS 40 FIRE FIGHTERS TACKLE DOUBLE OIL TANK BLAZE

Fire crew sceneINVESTIGATORS are still examining the scene after a 91-year-old man died in a house fire in the early hours of this morning.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) spokesperson said:

“We received a call at 00.58am this morning (2 September 2014) to attend a fire involving a domestic garage and an oil tank at Thorndale Park, Carryduff, Co Down.

“The fire quickly spread to another oil tank and ruptured, which caused a nearby detached bungalow on Hillsborough Road to catch fire.

“Firefighters rescued a 91 year old man from the property and alongside Ambulance Personnel they carried out CPR but sadly the man died at the scene.

“Fire crews dealt with the fire involving the bungalow, the garage and the oil tanks by 5.00am.

“In total 7 Fire Appliances and a Command Support Unit and around 40 Firefighters attended the incident.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
