THREE people -two men and a woman – are in custody over an assault and hijacking early this morning.
Police say that at around 3.25 am officers report of a hijacking in the Fountainhill area of Derry.
It was reporting that a man in his 20s was flagged down in the area.
A spokesman said the man wound down his window when his keys were taken along with a number of personal items and was assaulted.
The car was then forcibly taken from him.
Later, the stolen car was involved in a road traffic accident with another car in the Rosswater area.
Two men aged 29 and 24 and a 23-year-old woman were then arrested.
They are currently being detained at Strand Road PSNI station on suspicion of hijacking, grievous bodily harm and theft.
