The 118 Irish coastguard rescue helicopter was involved airlifting teen to hospital

A 19-year-old man is being treated in hospital after falling from a a bridge in a seaside town.

The incident happened around 3 am on Sunday morning when the teenager fell into water at Bloody Bridge, Newcastle, Co Down.

The emergency services and local coastguard were scrambled to the scene.

The Irish Coastguard helicopter based in Sligo was drafted in to airlift the victim to Daisy Hill hospital in Newry.

However, the man was later transferred to the accident and emergency department at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

He is currently described as being in a stable condition.
