A man from Northern Ireland has died after getting into difficulties while diving in Co Donegal.

The victim, who was in his 50s and from Strabane, Co Tyrone, was airlifted from St John’s Point to Sligo Hospital during the rescue operation on Saturday.

Ian Scott from Malin Head Coastguard said CPR was carried out on the man but to no avail.

“Sadly, despite administering CPR, from when the diver was recovered until his arrival at hospital, the man died.”

The victim had been diving with another man from Londonderry, who was also airlifted to hospital but was unhurt.
