POLICE in north Belfast are currently in attendance at a security alert.

It follows the discovery of a suspicious object in the Spamount Street area of the New Lodge.

A number of houses are being evacuated.

Army Technical Officers have been tasked to the scene.

The street has been closed and diversions are in place.

There are no further details at present.
