A delegation from the Belfast Islamic Centre has arrived at Stormont Castle this evening for a meeting with the First Minister Peter Robinson.
His officials had earlier requested the meeting in an effort to stop his ‘Muslims can go to the shops for me’ spiralling out of control.
The delegation will also be meeting directly afterwards Sinn Fein’s deputy first minister Martin McGuinness.
Sources said relations between Robinson and McGuinness have plummeted since the Muslim race row marks erupted.
At an Executive meeting this afternoon, Sinn Fein ministers went toe-to-toe over the Muslim row.
A source said: “McGuinness brought the subject up and that is when the fireworks started.
“It has put another strain on the Sinn Fein/DUP powersharing government. How long it can last is difficult to say. They are walking a tightrope at the minute.”
