Four men to face Belfast Magistrates’ Court charged with crime spree

POLICE have charged following a spate of car crimes in the Greater Belfast area early yesterday morning.

A car and a jeep were stolen in Summerhill Court in north Belfast and in Nutts Corner, County Antrim.

Other burglaries or attempts were made in Newtownabbey, Jordanstown and Carrickfergus.

The four men -aged 22, 25, 26, and 31 – are expected to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court later on Saturday.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with two counts of aggravated burglary, three counts of aggravated vehicle taking, two counts of burglary, burglary with intent to steal, assault on police, two counts of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and taking as motor vehicle without authority.

A 26-year-old man has been charged with two counts of aggravated burglary, two counts of burglary, burglary with intent to steal and two counts of allowing himself to be carried.

A 25-year-old man has been charged with two counts of burglary, burglary with intent to steal, allowing himself to be carried and possession of a class B controlled drug.

A 22-year-old man has been charged with two counts of burglary, burglary with intent to steal and allowing self to be carried.

Police revealed that just before 3.45 am on Friday, a black Seat Leon car was stolen in a burglary in Summerhill Court in Belfast.

Less than an hour later police received a report of an attempted burglary in Whitehouse Park, Newtownabbey, involving a number of men who drove off in a black Seat Leon car.

There was a further report of a burglary in the Mount Pleasant area of Jordanstown and a resident of Hawthorne Grove, Carrickfergus, reported disturbing four men in a black Seat Leon car at his home.

The Leon car was later spotted by police on the Antrim Road in Glengormley. Officers gave chase and stopped the vehicle on the Carmavy Road close to Belfast International Airport.

Two men aged 22 and 25 were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences. Two other men fled.

A short time later police received reports of two men acting suspiciously in the Carmavy Road and Lisnataylor Road areas of Nutts corner.

Two homes were entered and a Honda CRV jeep was stolen from one of the properties.

Police spotted the Honda in the area and pursued it into north Belfast where officers arrested two men aged 26 and 31.
