‘WAKING’ The Dead detectives have arrested a man over the murder of a Protestant building contractor almost four decades ago.

John McCready was shot a number of times as he walked home from a club along the Cavehill Road in January 1976.

The 58-year-old died in hospital ten days later from his gunshot injuries..

On Monday, detectives from the PSNI’s Terrorist Investigation Unit arrested a 56-year-old man was arrested in north Belfast.

He is currently being quizzed at the serious crime suite in Antrim about the murder.
