POLICE in east Belfast have recovered a handgun, a silencer and a quantity of ammunition along with other items.

It follows the search of properties in the Mount area, Ballymacarret, Belfast on Thursday 27 March 2014.

A series of searches were carried out as part of an ongoing proactive policing operation against serious and organised crime in the area.

A detailed investigation into the incident is ongoing and police are keen to talk to anyone who may have information in relation to the items found or with regard to serious or organised crime in that area.
