DETECTIVES are hunting an organised crime gang believed to have been involved in an overnight tiger kidnapping.

According to the PSNI, a number of males forced their way into a house at Smalls Road in Warrenpoint around 8.30 pm on Sunday night.

A 57-year-old female was ordered to visit a jewellery shop in Warrenpoint and retrieve a number of items.

A 53-year-old male and 20-year-old female were held captive during this time and all three victims were abandoned in a field in the Mayobridge area.

The kidnappers made their getaway from the area in an unknown vehicle.

Police say that the family have been left shaken and distressed by their terrifying ordeal.

Detectives are appealing to anyone in the Warrenpoint/Burren and Mayobridge areas who noticed any type of suspicious activity.

They are also keen to hear about any cars or vehicles acting in a suspicious way, between 7.30pm and 10pm to contact them immediately at Ardmore Police Station on 0845 600 8000.

Said a PSNI spokesperson: “If you prefer to provide information without giving your details you can contact the independent Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
