Detective Chief Inspector Alan Little appeals for information over serious north Belfast assault

TWO men have been charged over a serious weekend assault in north Belfast after a man was left fighting for his life.

Three others were left badly injured during the attack which happened on the Antrim Road on Sunday at 4.50 am.

Two men, 23 and 31, arrested by detectives have since been charged.

The 23-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and also common assault.

One of the victims is still critically ill in the intensive care unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

He has been further charged with cultivating cannabis, possession of a Class B controlled drug and possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply.

The 31-year-old man has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm (AOABH).

He has also been charged with possession of a Class B controlled drug, possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply and cultivating cannabis.

The two suspects are due to face the remand court at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Following the assault on Sunday, Detective Chief Inspector Alan Little appealing for information.

He said: “Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact us in CID in Antrim Road Police Station on 0845 600 8000.

“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111”.
