PROBE LAUNCHED AFTER OLD LADY KNOCKED KNOCKED AND KILLED

Garda officerGARDAI are investigating a fatal road traffic collision at Churchtown, Carndonagh, Co. Donegal last night.

Shortly before 6 pm, local woman Maura Porter was struck by a car whilst out walking just 150 metres from her home.

The 70-year-old received serious head injuries and was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital where she died shortly before midnight.

The driver of the car, a man in his 40s, was not injured.

The scene in sealed off and Garda forensic collision investigators are carrying out an examination of the area.

Gardai in Carndonagh are appealing for information on the incident.

It’s understood Ms Porter, who regularly walked the road, was struck whilst on the road – opposite the footpath where she normally walked.

She is the 13th person to die on Donegal’s roads in 2013.
