NORTH Belfast MP Nigel Dodds has condemned those behind the desecration of graves.
Several graves were attacked overnight in Carnmoney cemetery on the northern outskirts of Belfast.
“It is sickening to hear that a number of graves have been vandalised overnight at Carnmoney Cemetery,” said the DUP MP.
“At least one grave was attacked with paint, another has been broken and several others were pushed over.
It is disgraceful that anyone should violate the peace and sanctity of a cemetery. Such desecration is not wanted in Newtownabbey or anywhere else.
“Our thoughts are very much with the families affected by this vandalism who will be deeply hurt and upset.”
He said Newtownabbey Borough Council parks staff were on site to assist as far as they could to repair the damage.
“I appeal for calm and for no further incidents. I urge anyone who knows who was responsible for this shameful vandalism to bring that information forward to the PSNI, either directly on 0845 6008000 or anonymously through the Crimestoppers number 0800 555111.”
