PSNI find burned out car linked to Kevin Kearney murder in New Lodge, north Belfast

DETECTIVES investigating the dissident republican murder of a father-of-four in north Belfast have found a suspected getaway vehicle.

The car was found burned out on Thursday morning in the New Lodge district.

The vehicle is to be taken away for examination by forensic experts.

The dissident republican group, the ‘New IRA’, claimed it “executed” Mr Kearney at the request of the local community.

Mr Kearney, in his 40s, was found shot dead in a lake at Alexandra Park at 3.30 pm on Wednesday.

Detectives believe he was shot some time betwen 8.30 am and 9.30 am while out walking his dogs in the park.

Local people reported hearing a “number of shots” around the same time.
