Liam Boyce bags a brace as Cliftonville beat Glentoran 4-1 at Solitude

THEY are simply irresistable and they are now the team to chase and beat this season, say the pundits.

Champions last season and on today’s form, Cliftonvillie are showing signs again that they have the pedigree to make it a double.

The Reds suffered two recent defeats but bounced back last week with a 1-0 win over Ballymena Utd.

Today, Cliftonville gave Glentoran a lesson in football all over the park with tight defending, a tough midfield, silky passing and red hot in front of the goal.

Liam Boyce bagged a brace, including a penalty and Joe ‘The Goal’ Gormley also hit the back of the net following a lot of chasing through the Glens defence.

And Marty Donnelly also got on the score sheet to give the Reds a 4-1 win which keeps them top of the Danske Bank Irish Premier League.

Warrenpoint Town looked like they were going to bag three points at home only for Crusaders to get an injury time winner.

Linfield have climbed the table to fourth on goal difference with a 4-1 win at home against Ballymena Utd.

On his debut for the Blues, Andy Waterworth grabbed himself a hat trick which included a penalty on 60 mins.

Lowly Ards travelled to Mourneview hoping to squeeze out a draw with Glenavon.

There were early hopes when they scored a penalty on four minutes.

But the Lurgan Blues hit them for four with a penalty from Bates and strikes from Rainey, McCrory and og from Hunter.

After beating Cliftonville 3-1 at Solitude almost two weeks ago Oran Kearney’s Coleraine side just couldn’t keep Ballinamallard out on Saturday.

Coleraine leaked in two goals at the Showgrounds – both by Andy Crawford.

Last week Portadown thrashed the Mallards 11-0.

However, there was no routing of Dungannon Swifts at Shamrock Park with Portadown running out 2-1 winners with goals from Murray and Braniff.
