LOYALISTS have accused the PSNI of using “heavy handed tactics” tonight in north Belfast.

They claimed they were pushed off the pavements to make way for a republican anti-internment rally from North Queen Street.

Police used water cannon to push the loyalists up the Shankill Road before the parade started.

Earlier, republican youths attacked houses in the loyalist Brown Square area off the Shankill Road.

Loyalists later retaliated by attacked a nationals housing development close to the Shankill area, ripping off roofs and burning out a contractor’s vans.
