Police quiz man over meat cleaver threat to paramedics in Newtownabbey

A MAN has been arrested for questioning after an ambulance crew was threatened by a man with a meat cleaver in Newtownabbey.

The paramedic crew had been called to a house at Ravelston Way on Tuesday.

The suspect was verbally aggressive to the ambulance men.

He then walked away before returning with the meat cleaver.

The PSNI said an 18-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of common assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

He remains in custody and is being questioned by detectives from Newtownabbey CID.

The ambulance service said the paramedics had tried to convince the man to go to hospital, but he became aggressive before leaving the house and pacing the driveway and garden.

As the crew talked to his mother, he returned with a meat cleaver moving it in a circles as he approached the crew.

The paramedics got into their ambulance and called the police. Officers arrived and arrested the man.
