DFDS shipping and logistics company to shut Belfast office with the loss of 60 jobs

A DANISH company is shutting its Belfast finance office with the loss of 60 jobs.

DFDS, a shipping and logistics company, is merging its group finance operations into a single centre based in Poland.

The change affects operations in 21 European countries but the centre in Belfast is the first to be hit.

Staff have been told that the centre will close in December.

The company said it was consulting staff about redundancies.

The company added that ongoing logistics activities in Belfast and Dublin were unaffected.

DFDS used to operate ferries to Birkenhead, Heysham and Fleetwood from Belfast and Larne but sold to Stena in 2010.
