Police at the scene in east Belfast where a man died after being seriously assaulted

DETECTIVES have made a second arrest over the murder of a 41-year-old man who died after being attacked in east Belfast.

Officers from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch say they have arrested a 20-year-old woman on Sunday evening for questioning.

Police launched the murder investigation after they were received reports of a serious assault shortly after 1am on Sunday in an alleyway off Chamberlain Street.

Victim Stanley McAuley was found unconscious and taken to Royal Victoria Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

A 33-year-old man, who was arrested in connection with the incident, is still being questioned by police.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the Newtownards Road/Chamberlain Street area between 1am and 1.30am who may have noticed any suspicious activity to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
