Police investigate shooting of man in Moira

DETECTIVES are trying to establish a motive after a man was shot in Moira.

The 55-year-old was approached by two masked men in the Graham Court area of the village just before 8pm on Tuesday night.

One of the men shot the victim in the hand during the attack.

It is understood the victim managed to drive himself to hospital where he was treated for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Local DUP MLA Edwin Poots condemned the shooting.

“I make it absolutely clear that this isn’t something that’s acceptable in Moira or the Lagan Valley constituency or anywhere else in Northern Ireland,” said the Health Minister.

Alliance Lagan Valley MLA Trevor Lunn said there is no justification for violence.

“There is no place on our streets for guns.

“The people who carried out this attack are obviously very callous individuals who have no regard for the consequences of their actions,” he added.
