Army bomb experts uncover two pipe bombs in west Belfast

THE PSNI have revealed that two viable pipe bombs have been found following a major security alert in west Belfast.

The alert was sounded after two suspicious objects were uncovered during raids in the Lenadoon area on Friday afternoon.

As a result, Lenadoon Avenue was closed at its junction with Shaw’s Road and diversions are in place.

Shaw’s Road had also been closed at its junction with Rossnareen and the Glen Road.

The Glen Community Centre in Carrigart Avenue was been opened for those forced to leave their homes while Army technical officers examine the suspect objects.

The pipe bombs have now been taken away for forensic examanition and all roads have now reopened.
