A 15-year-old boy is to face a court on Saturday after violence broke out in Carrickfergus after loyalist flag protests on Friday.

Police were attacked during disorder in the West Street area of the town, with crowds throwing missiles including petrol bombs and masonry at officers.

The PSNI responded with baton rounds and water cannon in a bid to disperse the crowd.

The boy and a 30-year-old man also arrested by police are both facing charges of riotous assembly.

They are due to appear at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
