MURDERSQUAD detectives have charged a man with killing pensioner Bertie Acheson seven months ago.

The 39-year-old accused is from the Antrim area and was charged by the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team (MIT) with the manslaughter of the Coleraine pensioner.

The man is due to appear at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning.

He had previously been arrested as part of the murder investigation into the death of 72-year-old Mr Acheson.

The pensioner died at his home on Apri 30 after disturbing a burglar.

It is believed Mr Acheson died from a heart attack brought on by the burglary ordeal. He collapsed after confronting an intruder.

A 23-year-old pregnant woman appeared in court earlier this month charged with Mr Acheson’s manslaughter.
