IT’S just ONE day to the big Christmas tree light switch in Belfast City Centre.
And the countdown is truly underway as the finishing touches are being put to the grounds of Belfast City Hall.
Workmen have finished putting the final touches to the cabins for the popular Continental Market which has now become an annual feature in the grounds.
Lord Mayor Alderman Gavin Robinson was joined by a real life reindeer and festive guests earlier this week as Belfast gears up for its big Christmas lights switch-on this coming Saturday, November 17.
CBeebies favourites the ZingZillas will perform at the family-themed event which will be co-hosted by Julian Simmons and Cool FM presenter Sonia Mac.
There will also be a performance by Barazina youth choir at this Saturday`s switch-on which has been ticketed for the first time.
Alderman Robinson said: “The free tickets for this Saturday`s event went like hotcakes so everyone wrap up warm and come down and enjoy what is set to be a great family event.
“The arrival of the tree marks the official countdown to Christmas and with the Belfast Christmas Market setting up on the lawn this weekend as well as the switch-on event, the festive spirit will be well and truly in the air.”
The City Hall Christmas tree is a 15m Norwegian spruce from Pubble Forest in Tempo, Co Fermanagh.
Tickets for the switch-on event are available from the Belfast Welcome Centre. Those with tickets are reminded to check their assigned entrances which have been colour-coded to make access easier on Saturday.
The site opens at 6.10pm and the event will run from 6.45pm-7.45pm and the public are asked to be in place no later than 7.10 pm.
The Christmas Continental Market will also open on Saturday November 17th, at 12 noon.
