STENA LINE BELFAST GIANTS GET REVENGE ON SHEFFIELD STEELERS

Belfast Giants beat the Sheffield Steelers 3-0 in the Elite League

THE Stena Line Belfast Giants bounced back from Friday nights defeat by getting revenge on the Sheffield Steelers.

The 3-0 win closed the gap at the top of the Elite League standings to one point with the Giants having played three fewer games.

A 25 shot shutout for GB goaltender Stephen Murphy paved the way as Giants moved to within a point of Steelers at the top of the league standings with three games in hand.

The opening period saw nothing to split the teams with neither able to make the breakthrough  but it was the home side who took the lead at 25.01 when Noah Clarke fired past John DeCaro in the Steelers net on the powerplay.

That remained the position until Giants went 2-0 ahead at 46.12 thanks to Matt Towe’s first of the season and the icing on the cake was provide by Sam Roberts at 48.12 as Giants then saw out the remainder of the game, protecting Murphy well  to claim two important league and conference points.
