POLICE are probing the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a newborn baby girl in east Belfast.
The infant was found in the boot of a car in a street off the Upper Newtownards Road on Tuesday night.
However, details of the grim discovery have only just been released by the PSNI.
A post mortem examination has been carried out and the results are being assessed.
PSNI officer sealed off the area with a cordon and Crime Scene Investigators (CSIs) were called in to carry out a forensic examination of the car and surrounding area for clues.
As part of the probe the car in which the new born baby was found was taken away for a closer examination.
A police spokesman said inquiries were being made with the baby’s family.
