Playful evening rituals and a soundtrack tied to the sea give the stay its own quiet rhythm. That fits the Precise brand approach: root each place in its setting, keep the experience open and unhurried. Each property is shaped by its history, geography, and the cultures that have passed through it. The group operates hotels and resorts across Germany, Italy, and Spain, all united by a spirit of cultural pluralism.

Precise Resort Tenerife

The expansive gardens have been redesigned as a botanical journey inspired by Alexander von Humboldt and his historic connection to Tenerife. In 1799, Humboldt spent six days on the island. He climbed Teide and recorded how vegetation changed from coast to summit, work that helped establish biogeography as a science. Palms, flowering plants, pathways and bridges weave through the grounds and link the buildings to the water’s edge. As part of the renovation, every plant species has been mapped and catalogued. The majority are endemic, a living record of the archipelago’s botanical richness.

“Tenerife gathers landscape, light, and layered history in a way that is inherently cinematic,” says Ron Ben Haim, CEO & Founder, Precise Hotels & Resorts. “It’s a destination formed by crossings and encounters – explorers, artists, romantics. We wanted the resort to feel grounded in that energy, not imposed upon it.”

Precise Resort Tenerife

Creative Director Dikla Gal approached the renovation as an exercise in texture rather than spectacle.

The arrival unfolds into a central atrium open to the sky, drawing from Spanish courtyards and Moroccan riads. Kentia palms add height and shade, slow wooden ceiling fans set the pace, and large windows frame the ocean. Outside, a terrace lined with teak loungers faces the water.

The hotel’s 153 guest rooms, spanning sea-view and valley-view rooms, family rooms, and suites, are finished in a palette of sand tones, soft whites, and muted blues. Wood, rattan, linen, and ceramic provide warmth. Oriental carpets, North African artisanal pieces, and historic maps and engravings reflect the island’s layered, multicultural past.

Precise Resort Tenerife Bedroom

Most rooms step out to private balconies facing either the Atlantic, the Orotava Valley and Mount Teide, or the resort’s lush surroundings. Suites add separate living areas, as the light shifts between coast and mountain throughout the day.

Throughout the property, guests encounter a collection of limited-edition, hand-signed mid-century watercolours by Spanish artist Tomás Galán Ulla, depicting plantation workers, fishermen, and scenes of everyday island life.

“My work has always been about creating environments that exist slightly outside of time and geography,” says Gal. “I wanted the spaces to feel like they’d been collected over time, not designed all at once.”

Mar Océano, the main restaurant, overlooks the shore, with full-height windows that let in the sea air. Inside, teak tables and blue mahogany director chairs are arranged beneath handwoven plates. La Bodega, the resort’s à la carte dining room, draws on the same culinary foundations with a more focused menu.

Precise Resort Tenerife

Two freshwater pools sit within the gardens, both heated year-round. Pool Humboldt is set among tall palms with wide views toward the horizon, while a children’s pool and sun terrace sit beside the main building. Between dips, the pool bar ColoLoco serves cocktails against the Atlantic breeze.

Tennis and padel courts, yoga and Pilates sessions, an 18-hole mini-golf course, and a fitness studio fill the rest of the grounds. The dive centre takes guests straight from the resort’s doorstep into Tenerife’s volcanic rock formations and marine life.

The spa is cut into the cliff edge and finished in microcement, black basalt, and rustic wood. The space gives way to salt air and the greenery below. An outdoor jacuzzi hangs directly above the water, with sauna cabins alongside. Treatments use Sodashi, an Australian line handcrafted from 100% natural ingredients since 1999, found in luxury spas in over 25 countries.

Beyond the resort, Loro Parque is an eight-minute walk. The historic centre of Puerto de la Cruz, a port town built on centuries of trade, is a short drive away. Teide National Park and its volcanic landscapes are within easy reach.

Precise Resort Tenerife is now open, returning one of Tenerife’s original seaside hotels to the northern coastline it was built for.

Jet2.com has once again been named as the only UK airline to be awarded the prestigious status of Which? Recommended Provider, after being highly praised for its reliability, customer service, value for money and booking process.

The leading leisure airline topped Which?’s annual survey of short-haul airlines yet againand received the coveted Which? Recommended Provider title from Which? for the eleventh consecutive year.

This comes in response to travelling customers giving Jet2.com the highest customer score out of all the short-haul airlines surveyed.

Which?’s survey of short-haul airlines is based on feedback received from over 7,000 members of the public who were asked to rate their experiences of flying, within the last year, against a range of criteria.

This included on-time performance, customer service, value for money, punctuality, booking process, boarding, seat comfort, food and drink, cabin environment and last-minute cancellations.

Jet2.com was recognised for its customer service, value for money and booking process, clinching an impressive four out of five stars in all these categories.

One respondent said the booking process was simple because “Compared to other airlines, Jet2 gives you a generous luggage allowance, which makes such a difference.”

The airline was also named a big winner for its reliability, with Jet2.com outperforming other airlines in the survey for not making cancellations and getting customers away to their intended destinations.

The airline’s award-winning Red Team were also praised for being around to offer advice and guidance.

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have a track record of achieving recognition from the consumer champion and this latest accolade means that the Jet2 brands have been awarded Which?
BY TIM HEDGLEY, GROUP TRAVEL EDITOR

You, I’m sure, have all heard of the “Pink Pound”, well, there is another term spreading its wings, and that is the “Silver Pound”.

The Silver Pound gang are the pensioners who want to flash their pension and have a little getaway to keep their bones warm in this horrible winter. So for many Irish seniors, a few nights in a good hotel – with great food, a peaceful setting, and maybe a swim or a walk in the grounds – is the perfect short break.

The good news is that many of Ireland’s finer hotels actively court “golden years”, “over‑50s” or “active retired” guests with very attractive packages. But I don’t think you get as good a value as you do at Slieve Russel.

This article walks you through how to find those deals, what to look for in the small print, and why one particular hotel – the Slieve Russell Hotel, Golf & Country Club in Co. Cavan – stands out as exceptional value.

Know What “Senior” Hotel Deals Usually Include

Most senior or “golden years” offers in Irish hotels tend to follow a similar pattern. Instead of just quoting a room‑only or B&B price, they usually bundle in:

Dinner each evening – typically a two‑ or three‑course meal in the main restaurant

Full Irish breakfast every morning

Use of leisure facilities – pool, sauna, steam room or spa relaxation areas where available

Free parking and Wi‑Fi as standard

Midweek dates – Sunday to Thursday, when hotels are quieter and can offer better value

These packages are designed for couples or friends who want to settle in and enjoy the hotel’s comforts without worrying about where to eat every evening or how much each meal will cost.

When you compare offers, always check:

Conall Cearnach Restaurant

Is dinner included every night, or just once during the stay?

Is it a fixed menu or a credit toward the à la carte menu?

Are there any extras like tea/coffee and scones on arrival, or a glass of wine with dinner?

The real value is almost always in these inclusions, not just the per‑night room rate.

Travel at the Right Time: Midweek and Shoulder Seasons

To get the best value in Ireland’s finer hotels, timing is everything:

Midweek stays (Sun–Thu) are almost always cheaper than Friday and Saturday nights, especially in popular destinations.

Off‑peak months (typically November–March, outside Christmas/New Year and school holidays) often bring excellent senior packages.

Short “golden years” breaks of 2–4 nights are particularly good value, because hotels can predict their occupancy and price accordingly.

If your schedule is flexible – as it often is in retirement – you can let the deals dictate your dates rather than trying to force a bargain on the busiest weekends.

Where to Look for Senior Deals
To find the best senior hotel offers, don’t rely only on general booking sites. Instead, go where hotels actually promote their golden years packages.

Slieve Russel Hotel Staff, at the top of their game.

a) Directly on Hotel Websites

Many four‑star Irish hotels now have a dedicated section labelled:

“Golden Years Breaks”

“Over 50s / Over 55s”

“Active Retired Packages”

“Older & Wiser Offers”

These pages usually show:

Length of stay (e.g. 2‑Night Midweek Golden Years Break)

What’s included (B&B, dinner, leisure club, tea/coffee on arrival, etc.)

Any age requirement (e.g. lead guest 50+ or 55+)

Booking directly with the hotel often:

Gives best available rate on that package

Makes it easier to request ground‑floor rooms, walk‑in showers or nearby rooms for friends travelling together

Allows you to pick up the phone and clarify any details

b) Specialist Senior & Golden Years Sites

Irish‑based senior travel sites and “over‑55s” holiday platforms specialise in:

Collecting senior‑friendly hotel deals nationwide

Highlighting particularly good value midweek packages

Offering sample itineraries that suit a relaxed pace – scenic drives, gentle walks, garden visits and heritage sites

These can be a great way to compare a few different counties or to discover hotels outside the standard tourist trail that are actively courting senior guests.

What Makes a Hotel Truly Senior‑Friendly?

Price matters – but for senior breaks, comfort and ease are just as important. When you’re weighing up deals, look beyond the headline rate and ask:

One of the amazing rooms in the beautiful Slieve Russel Hotel, Ballyconnell

Is the property easy to get around?

Lifts to all floors

Good lighting and clear signage

Comfortable seating in lounges and bars

What’s the setting like?

Quiet countryside or noisy town centre?

Are there level walks or garden paths on‑site or nearby?

Is there a lake, park, or village to stroll to without needing the car?

Leisure and relaxation

Is there a pool with easy access steps or rails?

A spa or relaxation area for rainy days?

Cosy lounges for reading, chatting and afternoon coffee?

Dining options

Good reputation for food, with some lighter choices on the menu

Early dining times if you prefer not to eat late

Possibility of tea/coffee on arrival, or a “tea and scones” add‑on

Service and atmosphere

Reviews that mention friendly staff and a relaxed pace

A mix of guests, where seniors are clearly welcomed and catered for

A deal that’s €20 cheaper per night isn’t a bargain if the hotel is noisy, cramped, or awkward to move around.

Practical Tips for Getting the Best Price

A few simple steps can make a real difference to what you pay:

Pick up the phone.
Once you’ve seen an offer online, call the hotel:

Ask if there are unadvertised midweek deals for over‑50s/55s

Mention if you’re flexible on dates – hotels often reward that flexibility

Check if they’ll match or beat any rate you’ve seen on a third‑party site

Ask about added extras instead of just discounts.
Even if the rate won’t move much, hotels may include:

An extra dessert or tea/coffee after dinner

Early check‑in or late check‑out

A complimentary upgrade if occupancy allows

Travel with friends.
A small group of senior friends booking several rooms midweek is very attractive to hotels:

You may be able to secure a better rate or a tailored package

It can be easier to organise mini‑activities like a hotel‑hosted quiz, gentle guided walk or taster spa session

Be clear about your needs.
Tell the hotel if you need:

A walk‑in shower instead of a bath

A room near the lift

Ground‑floor access
You’ll enjoy your stay far more, and good hotels are happy to plan around this.

Why the Slieve Russell Hotel is Outstanding Value for Seniors

Among Ireland’s finer country hotels, the Slieve Russell Hotel, Golf & Country Club in Co. Cavan (https://www.slieverussell.ie/) stands out as particularly strong value for senior guests.

Here’s why it deserves to top any list of senior hotel deals:

a) Resort‑Style Facilities at a Sensible Price

Slieve Russell offers the kind of facilities you’d expect in a high‑end resort:

A well‑regarded leisure club with pool, sauna and Jacuzzi

The Ciúin Spa, with a strong focus on relaxation and gentler treatments

An 18‑hole golf course and extensive grounds with lakes and landscaped gardens

For seniors, this means you can:

Swim or sit in the spa area on wet days

Enjoy short, scenic walks without leaving the estate

Relax in spacious lounges with views over the golf course and lakes

Crucially, their senior‑style and midweek packages typically bundle accommodation, breakfast and evening meals at very competitive per‑person rates, often comparing favourably with city hotels that offer far less in terms of setting and amenities.

b) Peaceful Countryside Setting with Easy Day Trips

Amazing Food at the Conall Cearnach Restaurant in the Slieve Russel Hotel

Located in Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan, Slieve Russell sits on a large, tranquil estate – ideal if you value:

Peace and quiet

Safe, level walking routes

Easy parking right at the hotel

At the same time, it makes a great base for:

Gentle drives around Cavan’s lakes

Day trips into the border region (Fermanagh, Leitrim, parts of Donegal and Monaghan)

Visits to small towns and heritage sites without battling big‑city traffic

This blend of resort comfort and accessible countryside is particularly well suited to senior guests who want to explore a little but come “home” each afternoon to comfort and good food.

c) Senior‑Friendly Packages and Atmosphere

While their exact offers change over time, Slieve Russell has a long track record of:

Dinner‑inclusive short breaks that appeal strongly to over‑50s and retired guests

Midweek packages that reward those who can avoid the busiest weekend nights

An atmosphere where senior couples and groups feel completely at home among the mix of golfers, spa guests and families

Staff are used to:

Looking after wedding parties and older relatives

Dealing with special requests for room location and access

Providing a calm, unhurried style of service that makes seniors feel welcome rather than rushed

Ireland’s Fine Hotels Offer Great Senior Value – and Slieve Russell Leads the Pack

Ireland’s hotel scene is rich with opportunities for seniors to enjoy luxurious, yet affordable short breaks – especially if you:

Travel midweek and off‑peak

Seek out dedicated “golden years” or over‑50s packages

Book direct and talk to the hotel about your specific needs

Focus on properties with good food, relaxing spaces and easy access

Many four‑star hotels across the country now cater extremely well to older guests, but when you weigh up facilities, setting, atmosphere and price, the Slieve Russell Hotel, Golf & Country Club in Co. Cavan stands out as one of the very best value choices for senior hotel breaks in Ireland – and a superb place to make the most of your golden years.

The new hybrid ferry is due to commence service on the freight route from Belfast to Heysham on Friday January 23.

BY TIM HEDGLEY, GROUP TRAVEL EDITOR

Stena Connecta, the latest purpose-built freight vessel commissioned by Stena Line for the Irish Sea has arrived in Belfast Harbour and is due to go into commercial service on the Belfast-Heysham route on 23rd January 2026.

The ship joins its sister vessel Stena Futura which went into service on the Belfast-Heysham service in October 2025 and together they offer an additional 40% freight capacity on the increasing popular trade route between Northern Ireland and Britain.

Stena Connecta, like Stena Futura, is a ‘New Max’ RoRo ship built for maximised freight capacity, with 2,848 lane metres across its 147-metre length. It uses a multi-hybrid propulsion system enabling the use of battery power, biofuel, and methanol.

Uniquely, Stena Connecta has two 28m x 4m Norsepower Rotor Sails, designed to enhance energy efficiency and could deliver up to 9% fuel savings on its Irish Sea route between Belfast and Heysham. Stena Futura is also ready for rotor sail installation.

Paul Grant, Stena Line Irish Sea North Trade Director, said: “Our significant investment in Stena Connecta and Stena Futura – more than £100m – demonstrates our strong confidence in the continued growth of the Irish Sea region and our commitment to strengthening trade and connectivity links.

“In 2025 our Heysham – Belfast freight service recorded its highest volumes in the last 5 years with 113,000 units being shipped. These vessels were commissioned in response to this increasing customer demand for increased freight capacity on this route.

“Customer feedback on the recent introduction of Stena Futura has been extremely positive, and I have no doubt Stena Connecta will be equally well received across our customer base.”

Paul Grant added: “When operational both vessels will offer a choice of up to 24 sailings per week on the increasingly popular Belfast-Heysham service. We are particularly pleased to introduce two of Stena Line’s most advanced vessels to the Irish Sea region further enhancing Belfast’s significance as a key network business hub.

WELCOME TO BELFAST: Paul Grant (left), Stena Line XXXXX, and Belfast Harbour Port Director Michael Robinson welcome Captain Andrius Pakenas of Stena Connecta to Belfast Harbour following the arrival of the new hybrid ferry which is due to commence service on the freight route from Belfast to Heysham on Friday January 23,

“These vessels represent the very latest in maritime technology and will not only play a crucial role in maintaining essential transport links in Ireland and the UK but also make a significant contribution to our sustainability goals of reducing CO₂ emissions by 30 percent by 2030.”

Michael Robinson, Port Director at Belfast Harbour, said: “We’re excited to welcome the second of Stena Line’s new hybrid vessels, Stena Connecta, to Belfast Harbour.

“Coming so soon after last year’s celebration of 30 years of Stena Line in Belfast and the launch of sister ship Stena Futura, this arrival underlines the strength of our partnership, which is essential for connecting people and transporting the goods we all rely on. Together with Stena Line, we’re connecting the island more reliably than ever and delivering long‑term economic benefits for businesses across Northern Ireland.”

Phillip Hall, Mersey Port Director, Peel Ports Group, said: “The additional freight capacity marks a very welcome reinforcement of the strong trade links between the UK and Ireland. The Stena Connecta and its sister vessel, the Futura, will also make the Irish Sea shipping corridor even greener. The North West of England has always played a big part in this special trade relationship, and we have recognised this with our £10m upgrade of the Port of Heysham, which we hope will continue to support Stena’s operations for years to come.”

Heikki Pöntynen, CEO of Norsepower, commented: “Stena Connecta is a strong example of how forward-looking vessel design can combine operational efficiency with tangible emissions reductions.

“By integrating Norsepower Rotor Sails alongside hybrid propulsion and alternative fuel readiness, Stena Line is demonstrating a practical, data-driven approach to decarbonising short-sea shipping. We are proud to support Stena Line and Stena RoRo in bringing scalable wind propulsion into everyday commercial operation on the Irish Sea.”

Spend the day around the canals and Gravensteen Castle, visit one or two museums depending on your mood, then make the evening about comfort, with a cosy ‘beer-and-chocolate crawl’ that feels indulgent without being overwhelming.

THERE are few things that will help banish those dreaded post-Christmas blues more than a holiday.

Whether it’s a week in the sun, a luxury cruise, a road trip across the USA, a cultural city break, camping trip or staycation closer to home, having a holiday to look forward to is the perfect antidote to the annual seasonal slump we feel when the festive season comes to a close.

With this in mind, the timing couldn’t be better for the 33rd annual Holiday World Show Belfast in association with Bookit by NI Travel News, which takes place at the ICC Belfast at The Waterfront Hall from Friday January 9 until Sunday January 11.

Whatever your preferred holiday choice or destination, Holiday World Show Belfast is a perfect starting point to help people recharge their batteries and plan a getaway in 2026.

Promising ‘a world of travel inspiration’, exclusive ‘show only’ deals and expert advice, a visit to Holiday World Show Belfast in association with Bookit by NI Travel News is set to transform January from one of the most depressing months of the year into a time of excitement and anticipation for the thousands of holidaymakers across Northern Ireland who attend the show every year.

“Christmas is such a magical time of the year, it’s no surprise that we all feel a little flat when it’s over and we have to think about going back to work and the long month of January ahead,” said Maria Hourican, Chief Executive of Holiday World’s parent company Business Exhibitions Ltd (BizEx).

“If ever there was a time when we need a little ‘pick me up’, it’s January – and there’s no better way to refresh and recharge those batteries than by booking a holiday and giving yourself something exciting to look forward in 2026.

“With this in mind, we invite everyone to say goodbye to those post-Christmas doldrums and, instead, say hello to a world of travel inspiration at the Holiday World Show Belfast in January,” she added.

More than 11,000 visitors are expected to visit the ICC at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast for the province’s biggest annual celebration of travel and tourism, which will showcase a huge choice of holiday options at home and abroad from over 50 exhibitors – including international tourist boards, destinations, airlines, cruise & ferry companies, hotels and B&Bs, visitor attractions and travel agencies.

Holidaymakers can hop ‘on board’ one of the industry’s biggest growth areas with a visit to a dedicated cruise showcase hosted by NI cruise specialist Oasis Travel, while the show will also include its first ever USA Pavilion, hosted by leading local tour operator Travel Solutions, which will feature a range of star-spangled holidays to some truly iconic destinations across America.

For the second year running, the event’s headline sponsor is Bookit by NI Travel News, an online membership-based travel hub created by travel publication Northern Ireland Travel News.

For a subscription fee of just £10 per year, Bookit by NI Travel News offers members a minimum of 10 weekly holiday deals – all hand-selected and supplied by local NI travel agents – as well as access to an array of exclusive discounts from partners including Belfast City Airport, Ground Espresso Bars, Cosmetic Dermatology, Titanic Distillers, City of Derry Airport and much more.

“We are thrilled to renew our headline sponsorship of Holiday World Show Belfast, which is the perfect event to kick off 2026 and plan your next escape,” said Jonathan Adair, Managing Director of Bookit by NI Travel News.

“We’ve had an amazing year since the last Holiday World show, during which we celebrated Bookit by NITN’s first birthday in May and launched our new dedicated members area, which gives subscribers access to a range of exclusive discounts with local businesses and airports… all for just 84p per month!

“At last January’s event, we were delighted to welcome lots of new members to Bookit by NITN – now we can’t wait to do the same and grow the brand every year,” he added.

Another highlight of the weekend will be the Trade and Media Morning in partnership, for the first time, with Belfast International Airport (BIA) – which will open the show from 10am to 12.30pm on Friday January 9. This industry-only morning, which takes place before the doors open to the public, offers insights and networking opportunities for travel professional and media representatives.

BIA’s Communications & Corporate Affairs Director Deborah Harris said: “Belfast International Airport is excited to become a partner, for the first time, of Holiday World Show Belfast in association with Bookit by NITN. Holiday World really is an institution here and a wonderful showcase of how easy it is to explore the world from Northern Ireland – connecting travellers directly with trusted tour operators, agents, and destinations – and creating a buzz of excitement and optimism for the year ahead.

“We are delighted to be the Official Partner of the show’s Trade and Media Morning, two areas of industry that are very important to us, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone in January,” she said.

Stena Line Schools Competition

Children have the opportunity to use their Christmas colouring pencils and crayons to win one of two return family ferry crossings with Stena Line, on any of the company’s routes between Ireland and Great Britain, through a colouring competition for 4- to 6-year-olds and a drawing competition for 7- to 12-year-olds.

What’s more, any children who bring their competition entry with them to submit in person at Holiday World Show Belfast will receiveFREE FAMILY ADMISSION to the show for two adults and two children.

Entry forms are available to download before the event from https://www.holidayworldshowni.com/stena-line-school-competition.
