Click&Go, Ireland’s leading online travel agent, has conducted a price comparison on two-holiday deals, one in Ireland and one in Spain, to demonstrate the difference in cost between staycations and overseas holidays, as consumers begin to gradually return to international travel.

The online travel agent compared a week in a four-star hotel in southern Ireland with a week in the 4-star VIK San Antonio in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, and found that in addition to being cheaper, consumers would also find better value for money when choosing to book a holiday abroad.
For €683 per person, prospective holidaymakers could book seven nights in the VIK San Antonio, including bed and breakfast, dinner each night, and return Aer Lingus flights from Dublin.
A similar 7 night holiday in a well-known hotel in the south of Ireland would cost €859, which is €176 more expensive per person and does not include transport or dinners.
Click&Go currently have multiple dates in September for 7 nights in the VIK San Antonio in Lanzarote, priced at €699 per person or less depending on booking dates.
Paul Hackett, CEO of Click&Go, commented, “I understand the importance of supporting domestic tourism in Ireland, however, the price point of many staycations offers are simply too high and consumers would get much better value for their money on a holiday abroad.
