FORMER Belfast Lord Mayor Bob Stoker has been selected to stand for UKIP in south Belfast at the Westminster elections in May.

The one-time bricklayer will be taking on sitting SDLP MP Alasdiar McDonnell and Jonathan Bell of the DUP.

Mr Stoker said: “I am honoured and privileged to have been selected for UKIP.

“I see UKIP as a party that has clear, concise and undiluted policies that will achieve a better quality

“of life and greater prosperity for all our people. I am from South Belfast, and I live in the heart of it.

“South Belfast has been neglected for years by many, because of the perception of it solely being an area of affluence.

“UKIP will be representing everyone in this constituency in a fair and unbiased manor.

“What we have now does not work. It’s time for change in south Belfast.”

The UKIP candidates standing are:

Noel Jordan East Antrim
Alan Love Lagan Valley
