DETECTIVES are investigating a dissident republican gun attack on a man in west Belfast last night.

The brutal punishment shooting happened in the Downfine Walk area.

Inspector Paul Noble revealed: “Just before 9 pm, a man in his 20’s was taken from a house by a number of masked men.

“He was brought to a green area, where he sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.

“It is believed at this stage that a shotgun may have been used.

“Following the shooting, one of the men involved was reported to have made off on foot towards a nearby youth club whilst the others left the scene in a dark coloured saloon type car.

“The injured party was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.

“I am appealing for anyone who has any information about this incident which could assist us with our enquiries to contact CID in Woodbourne on 101.
